The Only True Life Hack

Almost anything in the world can be broken down into smaller components.

I get that every action and achievement is the sum of its parts. I get that. Forest for the trees, blah, blah, blah.

When it comes down to it, some behaviors drive progress better, faster, smarter, and more efficiently. These are key behaviors, and they are absolutely crucial to improvement in any given endeavor or field of study.

Key behaviors are the only true life hacks.

Key behaviors are the fundamentals. The basic building blocks.

Wow that got boring fast. Bear with me for just a moment more.

By spending conscientious time and attention here, we can shorten our learning curve for nearly anything. Also, we will be more aware of potential challenges and obstacles to performance.

Don’t look for the big, quick improvement. Seek the small improvement one day at a time. That’s the only way it happens, and when it happens, it lasts. – John Wooden

Unfortunately, we live a society that does not think this is a sexy approach. It’s not wrong, it’s just shortsighted. By resisting this temptation, we gain comparative advantage. Get advantages wherever you can.

Don’t seek the myth of the overnight success. It’s El Dorado. It’s Fool’s Gold. It doesn’t exist. At least not the way we’d like it to.

Don’t like it? Get better. Focus on the key behaviors? Get better faster.

Play the long game.

What are you going to set into motion today?
